The Strong Blue Line
Pastor Tim Matthias (operations pastor for Calvary Chapel Las Vegas) contacted me and requested copies of Winning a Gunfight be donated for officers of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD). Calvary Chapel Las Vegas is ministering to first responders following the massacre, and Pastor Matthias said Winning a Gunfight is a “critical resource” that can be a tremendous asset in the wake of the tragedy. One hundred books have been sent to Las Vegas, we’re trusting God to provide funding for books through his people. Cop Church Idaho Falls is supporting this effort; if you, your church, or your business would like to join with Cop Church, click here click on the “Donate” tab. Or you can donate right here by clicking to “Donate” tab above. Please include in comments “Books for Las Vegas.” Maybe we can raise money to send more books? Pray for the impact Winning a Gunfight will make in the LVMPD.
I stopped by the local US Forrest Service Office in Idaho Falls and spoke with the captain in charge of the law enforcement and investigations to invite him and his officers to Cop Church and provide copies of Winning a Gunfight to his officers. I was pleased to find out the office had already received a couple office copies (thank you Tamara!). The captain told me he had seven officers working out of his office, I gave him another five books so each officer could have a personal copy. He was very thankful for the books and let the officers know they’re invited to Cop Church.
Last month, I was traveling back from Twin Falls, ID and stopped for gas in Burley. While at the service station, a Minidoka County deputy pulled into the parking lot and I gave him a copy of Winning a Gunfight. As always, the deputy was very appreciative.
Because of donations to the Strong Blue Line, Sgt. Tony Anderson (Idaho State Police) took several books to a class he is teaching in Springfield, Illinois. Thanks so much for donating to the ministry that enable us to give books to officers.
Cop Church
Our first service was a great success! Thanks to the great help and preparation, everything ran very smoothly. I’ve had reports of attendance from 35 to 60. I’m going to go with about 50 in attendance, half of whom were either law enforcement officers or family members. The feedback we’ve received has been very positive and we’re looking forward to our next service. Pastor Gordon has reported that he’s already witnessed the fruit of our labors!
For those in the Idaho Falls area, please plan to attend our next service, I’ll be preaching on “Making a Case for God.” If you don’t know, police officers are skeptical. If they don’t come to the job with a sense of skepticism, they soon develop one. Skepticism isn’t a bad thing. In fact, a healthy sense of skepticism is necessary to be an effective officer. The opening statement of the Bible is either true or false. There’s no in between. Either God did create the heavens and the earth or he did not. There’s no other choice. The question, “Did God create the heavens and earth or not?” Is basic to God’s existence. If God does not exist, he did not create.
