The Strong Blue Line is going on the road! Please pray for our trip to Lenexa (Kansas City), Missouri for the third annual Badge of Hope Law Enforcement Marriage Seminar! For those who missed our March letter, Heidi Hogan is the wife of a Kansas police officer with a heart for police marriages. Heidi has a ministry with Badge of Hope Kansas City that hosts seminars to promote strong marriages for law enforcement couples. This year’s featured guest speaker is Lt. Col. Dave Grossman. I contacted Heidi to see about providing a copy of Winning a Gunfight to couples attending the seminar. We agreed to try and raise the money to provide a copy to each couple attending the conference. Heidi also invited me to come in person to connect with the officers and personally give the books to them, Sherry and I are planning to make the trip in a couple of weeks. So far donations have come in for 50 books, we are still 100 books short. Please consider donating toward this initiative. You can donate online, in the comment box just write, “Seminar.” If you prefer to mail a check, information about that can be found there also.
6-6-17 Doug Dryden and Zach Vanderwall (see picture) of Highlands Tactical were in Idaho Falls to teach their Combat Pistol course to Idaho law enforcement officers. Doug limits his class to ten, but made room for one extra…me. In chapter nine of Winning a Gunfight I describe how I met Doug and was introduced to his instinctive method of combat shooting. I was so impressed by his shooting technique I devoted an entire chapter to it. The two-day class was fabulous! It was an intense and fun 16 hours of shooting 1,000 rounds of 9mm ammunition (I was happy not to be shooting my .357 magnum or even my .40 S&W from days gone by!). The best part was seeing both seasoned and young officers shoot like they never thought they could. Doug also teaches military and civilian classes, check out his website. Doug purchased copies of Winning a Gunfight for the three officers in class who didn’t have the book and eleven copies for the Sanders County (MT) Sheriff’s Office where Doug continues to serve as a deputy.
6-20-17 The Cop Church Idaho Falls website and Facebook are live! Please visit. If you notice any errors or typos, please let me know. We’ve painstakingly wrote, revised, reread, and reviewed the site, but we still may have missed a thing or two. If you find something please contact me through the contact box below. Since Cop Church will only meet monthly, I’ve been asked if there will be Cop Church newsletter. When I was asked, I got that queasy feeling in my stomach, the kind you get when you agree something needs to be done, but you just don’t have the time to do it. My ministry with River of Life and The Strong Blue Line are keeping me busy enough without adding a second newsletter. So, here’s what I’m thinking—a combined newsletter. Beginning next month, the Blue Line newsletter will be the newsletter of both the Strong Blue Line and Cop Church Idaho Falls.
6-21-17 Pastor (and police chaplain) Kevin Norton ordered ten copies of Winning a Gunfight to give to officers he ministers to in St. Lewis County (MN). Please pray for Chaplain Norton as he ministers to the officers God puts before him.
The horrible assault on America’s police continues. According to the Officer Down Memorial Page, last month, four American police officers were killed in the line of duty by gunfire, including Officer Miguel Moreno from my former department in San Antonio. Officer Down reports that in 2017 officers killed by gunfire is up 25% over last year. Earlier today (July 5th) New York Officer Misosotis Familia was shot and killed from ambush as she sat in her patrol car. Please pray for the men and women who have taken an oath to protect us.
